The Massillon, Ohio, community is mourning the loss of Harry Steven “Big Steve” Sullivan, who passed away peacefully at his home on July 4, 2026, at the age of 71. A lifelong resident of Massillon, Big Steve was remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, loyal friend, and generous community member whose kindness and willingness to help others left a lasting impact.

Born on June 29, 1955, in Massillon, Big Steve was the son of the late Bernard and Robbie Mae (Broner) Sullivan. He graduated from Washington High School in 1974 and went on to build a career marked by hard work and dedication, retiring from A.R.E. in 2019 after many years of service.

A Life of Friendship and Service

Known for his outgoing personality, Big Steve cherished spending time with family and friends. Whether attending community events, cheering on his favorite teams, or simply enjoying conversation with those around him, he had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome.

A proud lifelong supporter of the Massillon Tigers and the Cincinnati Bengals, he rarely missed an opportunity to show his team spirit. He was also a social member of the American Legion, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow veterans and community members.

Beyond his hobbies, Big Steve was committed to serving others. He volunteered at local food banks and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Friends and loved ones remember him as a truly giving soul whose generosity and compassion touched countless lives.

Devoted Family Man

Family was at the heart of Big Steve’s life. He is survived by his loving children, Harry Steven Sullivan Jr. and Angela (Ricky) Rohrer; his siblings, Mae (Jeff Blake) Chapman, Rev. Dr. Bernard Sullivan Jr., and Deborah Wheeler; his grandchildren, Qui-vonna, Angelo, Jayven, Ayana, Tiana, Skylar, Tylar, Taner, Emma, Brielle, Adeline, and Gemma; and his great-grandchildren, Zai’Lonah and Za’Novi.

He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will continue to cherish his memory.

Big Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Robbie Mae Sullivan; his brothers, Gregory A. Sullivan and Timothy Sullivan; and his beloved grandson, David Hoover III.

Funeral Arrangements

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Big Steve’s life during visitation on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon.

A Home Going Celebration will begin at 12:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Dr. Bernard Sullivan Jr., followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery.

In honor of Big Steve’s lifelong passion for the Massillon Tigers, the family has requested that those attending wear casual attire in orange and black.
